Uganda Premier League table leaders KCCA FC opened a five-point lead at the top after edging Busoga United FC 2-1.
In a Friday bout played at the MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo, KCCA scored through Julius Poloto and Tshisungu Kankonde while Busoga’s goal was scored by Laban Tibiita.
Victory took the Kasasiro Boys to 29 points after 13 games and they have a five points lead at least for 24 hours, with Vipers FC and BUL FC who are level on 24 points facing each other on Saturday at Kitende.
On the other hand, Busoga remained in the relegation zone with six points in the 14th position, after playing the same number of games.
The encounter between KCCA and Busoga kick-started with a high tempo with both sides enjoying a fair share of possession and creating half chances.
In the 19th minute, KCCA’s striker Muhammad Shaban was brought down in the forbidden area by Busoga’s goalkeeper Micheal Lutaaya and the center referee Waiswa Muzamiru Kinene pointed to the spot.
Poloto stepped up and converted from 12 yards by sending goalkeeper Lutaaya the wrong way for the hosts to lead in the 21st minute.
After the half-hour mark, the visitors leveled matters thanks to Tibiita’s beautiful goal in the 34th minute for the game to end one-all at the interval.
There were no clear goal-scoring opportunities after the restart of the second half until the 69th minute when substitute Kankonde’s shot from distance went slightly over the bar.
In the 78th minute, the decisive moment arrived and it fell KCCA’s way when Kankonde’s thunderous effort found the back of the net, and 2-1 it finished in favor of the 13-time UPL champions.
It was Morley Byekwaso’s charges’ seventh home game this season and they have managed six wins and a draw.
