After nine Uganda Premier League games this season, no KCCA FC striker had scored a goal and it was a huge concern to both the head coach Morley Byekwaso and the club’s diehards.
However, on match day 10 forward Muhammad Shaban scored in a 2-0 win over Onduparaka a week ago in Bombo while the other goal was scored by Allan Okello.
And on match day 11, strikers Tshisungu Kankonde and Charles Lwanga came off the bench in the second half and added to midfielder Moses Waiswa’s goal from a penalty in a 3-0 victory over rivals Express FC at Lugogo on Friday.
“Our strikers not scoring goals had become a very big problem for us but seeing them start getting on the score sheet gives me confidence as a coach,” Byekwaso said after the game against Express.
“This boosts their confidence too as players because I know how much they have been trying to score goals but failed.”
“Once the strikers fail to score the goals it takes away the confidence of the players and the coach but I have never given up on them, I keep on encouraging them, especially in training, and today I am extremely happy for them,” he added.
Kankonde was scoring for the first time in the KCCA colours having joined the Kasasiro Boys at the start of the season while Lwanga was also on target for the very first time this season.
Victory took the 13-time UPL champions back on top of the 15-team log with 25 points after 11 games and they will visit BUL FC at FUFA Technical Center, Njeru on Tuesday, December 13th.
“We are not in that position by mistake we have fought so hard to be where we are now because we start poorly losing games.”
“But sometimes when you do not perform well it motivates you to improve and do better going forward.”
“Our next game is away to BUL and we respect them so much but if we want to maintain our spot on the table we need to be very positive, tactical, and aggressive and I think we can match them,” Byekwaso noted.
As KCCA were winning their fourth consecutive game, on the other hand, Express were losing their fourth straight game.
The Red Eagles are placed ninth with 14 points after 11 games and will host holders Vipers SC at Muteesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku on Tuesday.
