Unlike last season where the goalkeeping position was tampered with time and again at KCCA FC, this season one goalkeeper has been used for the first 13 games.
Captain Benjamin Ochan has started and finished all the 13 Uganda Premier League games that the Kasasiro Boys have played so far this campaign but the time has come for him to miss the last game of the first round through injury.
Head coach Morley Byekwaso confirmed that the 33-year-old suffered both ankle and knee injuries during KCCA’s 2-1 win over Busoga United on Friday.
“We have two injured players including our captain Benjamin Ochan who is not going to feature in tomorrow’s games against Bright Stars FC, Byekwaso confirmed to the club media.
“Benjamin Ochan is out due to the ankle and knee injuries that he got in the previous game.”
The above brings Derrick Ochan straight into the picture ahead of KCCA’s visit to Kavumba Recreation Grounds because he is the one that plays as the second fiddle and has been an unused substitute so far this season.
Byekwaso also confirmed that defender Brian Majwega is out due to Malaria and Ulcers while midfielder Ashraf Mugume is suspended having accumulated three yellow cards.
The 13-time champions will be hoping to finish the first round on a high against a stubborn side in Bright Stars and Byekwaso is well aware of the challenge ahead of his team.
“I want to thank my players and the technical team for the job done so far in the first round but it is all not yet done until we finish tomorrow’s game.”
“We are going to meet a side that is hard and this game is going to reflect all the past two games we have played because they are very resilient and they work as a team.”
“Bright Stars against KCCA is not going to be an easy game and if we are to get something positive from such a game we must work extremely hard,” he noted.
Coming into Tuesday’s game the Lugogo-based outfit is positioned top of the 15-team log with 29 points after 13 games whereas the Kavumba-based side is placed eighth with 17 points after the same number of games.
As KCCA defeated Busoga 2-1 at Lugogo the last time out, Bright Stars lost to Arua Hill SC in Arua by the same scoreline.
When KCCA and Bright Stars met last season, the former won the second 1-0 at Lugogo while the first leg ended 1-1 in Kavumba, tomorrow’s host grounds.
Three other league games will be played on the same day, Vipers SC and URA FC will be in Jinja to visit Busoga and Modern Gaddafi FC at FUFA Technical Center, Njeru and Kakindu Stadium respectively whilst Wakiso Giants FC will host Arua Hill at Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium.
