Sixteen-time champions of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League can live to see another season in the top flight after Onduparaka’s 1-0 win over Ndejje Lions on Thursday in Luwero.

The tie was initially washed out on Wednesday by a heavy downpour after just 20 minutes of play, it was rescheduled for Thursday at 2 pm, but it was again almost not played because of the weather.

Vianne Ssekagujo scored the all-important goal in the 88th minute to complete the relegation puzzle as Ndejje joined Nyamityobora and Paidha Black Angel, the same trio that was promoted last season.

With one round of games to go, SC Villa are 13th on the 16 team log with 31 points, five points above the relegation zone ahead of their Saturday game against Nyamityobora on Saturday at Namboole.

All this is happening at the back of claims that Douglas Bamweyana is no longer in charge at Villa according to Daily Monitor.

The newspaper reports that Bamweyana will not be in the dug-out for their final league fixture at home to Nyamityobora on Saturday.

Bamweyana’s assistant Simon Mugerwa took charge of the team’s Wednesday and Thursday morning training sessions at Villa Park.

This was followed by a meeting between interim chairman William Nkemba and the players in which they are believed to have been told of the decision of moving on without Bamweyana.

SC Villa’s public relations officer Sharon Adong however refuted the claims insisting Bamweyana is still the club’s coach.

“We have not received any communication from the board or the coach about him leaving the a club. As far as we are concerned, coach Bamweyana is still the coach of SC Villa” Adong told www.football-256.com.

“Current our focus is on the Saturday game, the team is in high gear and ready to try and finish the season on a high,” she added.

Surviving relegation gives Villa another opportunity to rebuild and start the 2019/2020 season stronger
