KCCA FC narrowly beat Wakiso Giants FC 3-2 in a pulsating Uganda Premier League encounter at the MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo on Saturday.

Ashraf Mugume’s brace plus another by Geoffrey Wasswa enabled the hosts to the victory, while the Purple Sharks netted through Ibrahim Kasule and Tom Masiko.

It was a relatively dominant first half from the 13-time champions, who should have headed out for the break ahead.

The newly acquired Simon Tshisungu Kankonde had his powerful freekick rattle the woodwork in the 21st minute, to leave matters on level terms.

The Congolese had another go at the half-hour mark, but his strike sliced the post, again.

All the KCCA threats were after their goalkeeper, Ali Mwirusi had denied Wakiso’s Sharif Kimbowa with a powerful left hand.

Six minutes after the restart, the Kasasiro Boys broke the deadlock through substitute Mugume’s strike from a Moses Waiswa corner.

In the 66th minute, defender Wasswa added a second, a header off Saidi Mayanja’s well-taken corner.

The guests reduced the deficit in the 82nd minute through a great Kasule goal, following brilliant interplay with Moses Aliro.

Two minutes later, however, the hosts added a third and Mugume’s second on the evening. The midfielder got at the end of Usama Arafat’s pass to superbly slot home.

In a mad finish to the game, in the 88th minute, Wakiso added a second through a Masiko penalty, following foul play from skipper John Revita.

Despite a nervy finish, KCCA held on for an opening day home victory. They are now third on the log with three points and will return to action away against Arua Hill SC on Friday, October 7.

Four days later, 13th-placed Wakiso will be away from home again, against Maroons FC.
