URA FC hopes to collect maximum points when they host Police FC on Saturday as they seek to keep their Uganda Premier League (UPL) title hopes alive.
The Tax Collectors welcome the Cops at the Arena of Visions on Saturday, after a disappointing 1-1 draw away at Kitende to Vipers.
The result between the leaders URA and second-placed Vipers conveniently invited third-placed Express FC back into title contention.
Now only one point separates each of the first three teams from the other. URA, Vipers and Express have 51, 50 and 49 points respectively.
URA will keep one ear on the ground for results between SC Villa and Vipers on Saturday, and what happens at Wankulukuku between Express and UPDF.
URA target man, Cromwell Rwothomio who linked up with Shafik Kagimu to score for URA, is optimistic that they will collect maximum points against the cops to consolidate their stay at the top.
“It was a disappointing result in Kitende because we wanted all three points but got only one. We now need to recover fast enough for another hard game against Police FC on Saturday,” Rwothomio said.
Rwothomio, until the last minute, was declared unavailable for URA’s trip to Vipers, but he will look to play another starring role for his side when the Cops come visiting.
URA won the first leg 2-0 at Lugogo, inspired by captain Shafiq Kagimu who scored one and assisted the other.
URA has scored 35 goals counting on consistent Kagimu and strikers Steven Mukwala and Rwothomio combining for 26 goals.
Sam Simbwa’s side is yet to lose a game in May. They won 3-1 against Onduparaka before drawing 1-1 with the Venoms.
For URA, only Micheal Birungi is on the injury list and Jackson Nunda is ruled out for the whole season after recently undergoing surgery on his knee.
Police is faced with an injury worry. Ruben Kimera was stretchered off for Eric Ssenjobe just 12 minutes into the game against KCCA on Wednesday.
The Cops stylish playmaker, Frank ‘Zaga’ Tumwesigye was also replaced with Muwadda Mawejje before halftime at Lugogo, while they welcomed back Johnson Odong from injury.
