Arguably one of the biggest games in the Uganda Premier League is this Saturday when KCCA FC hosts Vipers SC at Lugogo.

In this article, Brian Ahebwa takes a look at which players have featured for both clubs in each other’s current squad.

In the Vipers team that will travel to Lugogo to face KCCA, two players have previously played for the latter.

Midfielders Paul Mucureezi and Bright Anukani are the two players currently at Vipers but also had stints at KCCA.

Mucureezi played at Lugogo for three seasons between 2015 and 2018 whereas Anukani was there on a one-year loan spell in 2020 from Proline.

It is from the latter that he joined the Venoms in 2021 on a permanent three-year contract.

Mucureezi won two UPL and Uganda Cups apiece and one Super Cup with the Kasasiro Boys while Anukani won none.

On the other hand, KCCA has six players in the current squad that also previously played for Vipers.

Goalkeeper Derrick Ochan, defender Geoffrey Wasswa, midfielders Moses Waiswa, Ashraf Mugume, Emmanuel wasswa and striker Muhammad Shaban are the players in question.

Ochan, Mugume, Geoffrey Wasswa, and Emmanuel Wasswa all left Kitende in 2020.

Whereas, Waiswa and Shaban left the five-time UPL champions in 2019 and 2021 respectively.

During their five-season stay at Kitende, Ochan and Geoffrey Wasswa won two UPL titles and a Uganda Cup each. Waiswa, Mugume and Wasswa won one UPL title apiece while Shaban won a Super Cup.

It is still uncertain whether Mucureezi and Anukani will start against their former club KCCA because recently they have not been much involved with the venoms.

On the other hand, three KCCA players, Waiswa, Mugume, and Shaban are likely to start against their former employers Vipers
