URA break Onduparaka Namboole Jinx, Express fly again

By Peter Tabu

Since joining the topflight division, Onduparaka hadn’t lost a game at Namboole and they were yet to concede there. In fact they called Namboole their second home.

All that came to an end of Friday when URA FC dispatched them 3-1 in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League to keep their unbeaten run intact.

The tax collectors and Vipers remain the only unbeaten teams in the league this season.

Onduparaka could have opened the scoring if it wasn’t for URA’s James Alitho’s save when he tipped Rashid Toha’s free kick over the bar in the 20th minute.

Sam Ssimbwa’s charges then started to show intention for an early goal which was easily granted by Onduparaka when Joackim Ojera was sandwiched and brought down in the forbidden area by Winger Vianney Ssekajugo and Okocha Rashid.

Kagimu Shafick stepped up to give URA the lead and made no mistake sending his low drive shot to the right of Nicholas Ssebwato in the 23rd minute.

URA looked to seal the deal before half time and again Onduparaka gifted the hosts with Ojera Joackim punishing them again when his corner was headed in by Abel Eturude.

Onduparaka would react a minute later when Ezra Bidda left the URA defence for dead on the left before crossing for Vianney Ssekajugo who tapped home to make it 2-1.

After recess, URA’s dominance continued with striker Ondongotayo Matthew scoring a low drive shot from outside the 18 yard area just three minutes into the second half.

Onduparaka, who had right back Denis Okot sent off for a second bookable offense picked up their second loss in their last three games.

The Arua based side now sit third on the log three points ahead of fourth placed URA who now have 20 points.

Elsewhere, Express managed another win in as many games beating Nyamityobora 2-1 at the Betway Muteesa II Stadium Wankulukuku.

Badru Nsubuga scored in the 26th minute to give Express the lead before Alex Komakech levelled matters from the penalty spot with 14 minutes to go.

Michael Birungi sealed it three minutes later, the win takes Kefa Kisaala’s side two spots above to 8th spot on the log with 19 points. Nyamityobora are still stuck in the red zone on seven points.
