URA FC moved one point clear at the top of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League despite settling for a goalless draw against Bright Stars on Saturday.

Sam Ssimbwa’s men climbed above champions Vipers SC – but left Kavumba Recreation Grounds disappointed that they failed to go three points clear after struggling to break down a resilient Bright Stars.

URA, chasing a first league title since 2011, created a little chances to beat their hosts as they played to a second consecutive draw this week but Vipers’ 1-0 defeat to third placed Express gives them the advantage with 10 games to go until the end of the season.

The game was a far cry from the pre-match atmosphere and anticipation as both sides threatened as little in front of goal.

Once the action got away, it is Bright Stars who had the better start, Samuel Ssekamatte and Marvin Joseph failing to quite work goalkeeper Alionzi Nafian early on.

After the opening 15 minutes, the Tax Collectors seemed to have a grip of the game, dominating possession but were lethargic in the final third.

Their best piece of attacking action came via captain Shafik Kagimu whose shot from outside the area drew a fine stop from goalkeeper Simon Tamale midway through the second half.

Baker Mbowa’s side have now picked up 13 points from a possible 15, but dropped to eighth on the log following UPDF FC’s victory over Kitara FC.
