Simon Baligeya has signed a three-year contract with URA FC, the club has confirmed. The defender will be a tax collector for at least until 2024.
Born on the 17th of July 2001, Baligeya at only 20 is a two-time medallist in the national ranks. He was part of the historical Ugandan side that played in the finals of the recently concluded AFCON U-20 tournament in Mauritania.
Baligeya was also part of the youthful team that helped Uganda to retain the CECAFA U-17 title last year in Gulu.
The defender was outstanding in the Copa Coca-Cola secondary schools tournament where he featured for Standard High Zana in 2015-16, Bulo Parents from 2017 – 2018 and lately Kibuli SS since 2019-2020.
The tax collectors are regrouping for the 2021/2022 season after narrowly losing out on the league title by just a point to Express FC last season.
URA’s second-place finish also granted them a slot in the CAF Confederations Cup, the Nakawa based side also intends to battle for the Uganda Cup next season.
As URA recruits ahead of a busy season, the defender’s comfortability on the ball fitted well the description of the defender they were looking for.
The defender is swift with his well-timed long passes in play, besides utilizing his body well to defend with his mind. He preferably utilizes his right foot the most, but can easily play with both his feet.
