Initially, Algeria was meant to host Uganda in Oran at the new Olympic Stadium as both nations get their 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualification campaigns underway.

However, there has been a venue change, and now the game will be played in the Algerian capital Algiers at the July 5, Stadium on Saturday, June 4.

The development was confirmed by the Algerian Football Federation when they requested the Confederation of African Football to switch venues since the Olympic Stadium is set to host the 2022 Mediterranean Games.

“The new Olympic Stadium in Oran is hosting the next Mediterranean Games of Oran 2022,” The Algerian authorities said as quoted by the Daily Monitor.

“The infrastructure can not be functional on June 4 for the meeting of the national team. It was built specifically for the occasion, and it is in final preparations ahead of the games’ launch in a month.”

“The organizing committee of the Mediterranean Games has issued a veto wishing to preserve the state of the lawn 20 days before the opening ceremony.”

The Olympic Stadium will host 26 countries that will take part in 24 different sports categories from June 25 to July 5, 2022.

Djamel Belmadi and his charges will therefore return to their famous home Stade du 5 Juillet to host the Uganda Cranes. Both Algeria and Uganda belong to Group F which also has Niger and Tanzania.
