With the SC Villa Presidential election happening in less than two weeks, the Electoral Committee has issued a warning to the candidates against acts that incite the public into violence.

It is a hugely contested affair between Busiro County legislator Medard Lubega Ssegona and Cooperate Salesman Dennis Mbidde Ssebugwawo.

In the August 18, 2021 media release, the Villa Electoral Committee (VEC) stresses that they agreed with the two aspirants about several issues, among which is ensuring a peaceful campaign.

“The Villa Electoral Committee (VEC) met with the Presidential Candidates in the upcoming elections for the term 2021-2025 for a briefing before the candidates officially start their campaigns,” it partly reads.

With the Jogoo arguably the most followed club in the country, the electoral committee chairman anticipated acts of mayhem and had to issue a caution.

“Candidates shall publicly denounce and condemn any communication that threatens or aims at inciting violence.”

Among other issues discussed and agreed upon with the candidates include confirming compliance with the campaigns code of conduct.

“Candidates shall confirm their compliance with the Campaigns Code of Conduct issued on 14th August 2021 by appending their signatures to the Code of Conduct.”

Earlier this week, Mbidde warned voters against voting members of the opposition, a thing that many regarded discriminatory. VEC has issued a warning against this act.

“In line with Article 4 of the SC Villa Statutes, candidates shall exercise neutrality and non-discrimination throughout this electoral process.”

“Candidate Dennis Ssebugwawo Mbidde regrets and retracts earlier posts on social media or messages where he may have used inappropriate language regarding this electoral process.”

The campaign period officially started on Tuesday, August 17, and will go on till August 25, with the election slated for August 28, 2021.
