‘Villa won’t take MYDA challenge lightly’ – Kaziba

There is not a more contrasting encounter in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League this weekend than MYDA’s visit to SC Villa.

SC Villa are record league winners while MYDA are newly promoted. In terms of recent form, both teams are worlds apart ahead of the clash at the Bombo Barracks grounds on Saturday.

But SC Villa coach Edward Kaziba remains wary of MYDA, suggesting that MYDA are not far off from turning things around and is wary of his side being on the end of a potential upset from their struggling visitors.

“I think we have learnt that in this league anything can happen, and the game against MYDA is no exception,” Kaziba told Football256.

“I know they have had a really tough time with the results recently and I watched their game when they lost 7-0 to Vipers.”

“What has happened before does not matter at all. What matters is that the game pits Villa against MYDA and that is what we need to focus on because that is what we can control.”

“But we have to be very careful against them tomorrow, and we are not taking anything for granted nor are we thinking that the challenge will be any easier for us.”

“We have to battle until the end and we have to be aware that we are playing against a team that has it all to play for and therefore we have to be on guard,” Kaziba warned.

The Jogoo are firm favourites to pick up their third win of the season that could lift them into fourth (depending on results elsewhere) as the race for the title starts to heat up.

Villa has enjoyed an indifferent start to the season, losing two games either side of an imperious 2-1 victory over KCCA before the league took a break in December.

They currently lie ninth on the log on seven points, five points behind the table leaders UPDF FC. The Jogoo have been excellent at home so far this season, winning both their home encounters, handsomely overcoming KCCA FC and Mbarara City.

MYDA on the other hand are without a win in their opening games. They are shipping in goals for fan, conceding at least three times in each of their five games so far.

While a 3-3 draw against Mbarara seemed to have breathed life back into the squad, a 7-0 thumping last Saturday must have shattered any bit of momentum they had started to build.

Villa will seek to keep up the pressure on the front runners. With four of the top seven facing each other the weekend, the Jogoo will want to close the gap if they are unable to overtake them on the table.
