Vipers SC will be hoping to bounce back from Tuesday’s disappointing defeat to Mbarara City when they make a short trip to face Solitilo Bright Stars in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League.
Vipers squandered a two-goal lead to lose 3-2 at home to Mbarara City as their title defence suffered another blow, dropping to third on 53 points.
On Friday, however, they will play visitors to fifth-placed Bright Stars at the Kavumba recreation centre in Wakiso.
They are aware a win could take them up to the apex pending results from leaders Express FC who play Kitara FC on the same day. Second-placed URA SC hosts UPDF FC on Sunday.
The Venoms have been impressive away from home, winning five on the bounce. Their recent home form has done them a big disservice as they now have to play catch-up in the title fight.
Bright Stars, who are yet to lose a league fixture in the previous 10 matches are fifth with 41 points. They have won seven and drawn three during that run.
Fred Kajoba missed up to seven key players in Mbarara’s match through injury. Livingstone Mulondo, Bobosi Byaruhanga, Karim Watambala, Milton Karisa and Disan Ggaliwango all missed through injury and could make the trip.
Captain Halid Lwalilwa(ankle) and veteran forward Dan Sserunkuma (thigh) will miss the trip to Kavumba as they did not take part in the team’s training this week.
For Bright Stars, starman Joseph Akandanwaho missed their barren stalemate in Arua against Onduparaka, and it is unclear whether he will be ready by Friday.
