It will be the Champions versus the new boys when the 2020/21 StarTimes Uganda Premier League season gets underway on Thursday, December 3, 2020, as per the draft fixtures released by the league secretariat.
Malaba Youth Development Association (MYDA FC) who travel to the St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende for their first-ever top division game against reigning champions Vipers SC.
Thirteen-time league champions KCCA will also be in action in the other game scheduled for the opening day of the season and will be away to Soltilo Bright Stars.
However, the venue for the game is yet to be confirmed with Bright Stars yet to confirm where they will host their games for the 2020/21 season.
Police FC who survived relegation by a single point last season will get their campaign underway against Wakiso Giants at the MTN Omondi Stadium in Lugogo while BUL FC hosts record league champions SC Villa on the same day on Friday, December 4.
Six-time winners Express make the trip to the Green Light Stadium in Arua to visit Onduparaka FC on Saturday, November 6 with Mbarara City hosting URA FC also on the same day to cap the opening weekend of the season.
Meanwhile, only 14 teams have been included on the draft fixtures with newly promoted side Kitara FC and Busoga United who are yet to fulfil the minimum licensing requirements not included on the fixtures.
The first derby of the season is scheduled to take place on December 15, when SC Villa host arch rivals KCCA.
The Jogoo will then travel to the Betway Muteesa II Stadium for another derby against arch-rivals Express FC on Saturday, December 19. On the same day, KCCA faces URA at Lugogo.
The league will then take a two-month break until February 2021, to facilitate the Uganda Cranes preparations for the African Nations Championships (CHAN) tournament due January – February 2021.
Cranes are expected to start their preparations on December 14 but will depart for Cameroon on December 20, for a pre-CHAN friendly tournament.
The UPL will return on Friday, February 12, 2021, with three fixtures including; Police FC vs Kyetume, BUL vs KCCA and Mbarara City against Wakiso Giants.
The games are liable to change depending on the television schedule and fulfilment of the FUFA Licensing requirements by UPL clubs for the 2020/21 season.
