Holders Vipers SC comfortably defeated rivals SC Villa 3-1 on Saturday to complete a league double over their rivals this season in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League.

In the first half of the season, the Venoms condemned Villa to a 3-0 defeat courtesy of goals from Yunus Sentamu, Paul Willa and Dan Sserunkuma at Kitende.

Today’s victory means that Vipers has made only their second league double against the Jogoo, albeit, scoring six goals in the process and pushing further for the title defence.

At the Bombo Military Barracks on Saturday afternoon, it’s the visitors that showed more intent right from kickoff to the final whistle.

They played with enough poise, creating clear-cut chances. It did not take long for young midfielder Bobosi Byaruhanga to break the deadlock.

Bobosi reacted quickly to lash home poking in his first goal of the season from close range after Saidi Keni spilt Ceasor Manzoki’s shot into his past.

In the 33rd, league top scorer striker Yunus Sentamu scored his 15th goal of the league this season off Paul Mucureezi’s well timed through ball, for his fifth goal in the last four game.

Villa’s dark day was further condemned by a red card to defender Gavin Kizito after he was judged to have denied Vipers a goalscoring opportunity by fouling Manzoki.

Vipers managed to extend their lead through Muxureezi’s free kick that sailed beyond Keni’s stretch, to take his tally to 10 league goals.

The Jogoo pulled a goal back in a dramatic was as Keni’s long kick from his own penalty area somehow looped over Vipers goalkeeper Fabien Mutombora.

Vipers momentarily go top of the league on 53 points – but could slip back into second if URA win their game against Police.

They will host Mbarara City FC on Tuesday to keep up the title fight.

Meanwhile, Villa who are eighth with 32 points will be looking for their first win in five league games when they visit Police FC on Wednesday at the MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo.
