Vipers bounced back from URA’s 2-1 loss at Kitende last week and defeated Police FC with a similar scoreline at StarTimes Stadium Lugogo.
Dan Muzeeyi Sserunkuuma and Rahmat Ssenfuka scored for the Kitende based club while Police’s only goal was scored by Basani Safi Nasur on Tuesday.
Police entered the game looking for a win as they are targeting top five finish but they were unable to live up to their own expectations despite displaying a super performance.
Police FC started on a high note with several attempts at Vipers’ goal, the Abdallah Mubiru coached side were a highly coordinated side with short crispy free flowing intimadating football.
However, Vipers were the first to find the back of the net in the 14th minute, Serunkuuma scored from Innocent Wafula’s ground defense splitting pass.
Police came closer in the 35th minute of the game but Vipers’ custodian Derrick Ochan was well positioned to punch out Juma Balinya’s free kick, before saving Ivan Bukenya’s header yet again in the 38th minute.
Serunkuuma failed to double Vipers’ lead as he was well contained by Joseph Sentume in Police’s box after 55 minutes.
Police kept on pressing for an equaliser but all their attempts were fruitless, this made Vipers regain confidence.
Rahmat Ssenfuka doubled Vipers’ lead in the 59th minute of the game, he fired a left stunning shot from Duncan Seninde’s effort.
Six minutes later, Police FC pulled one back through Basani with a sweet right powerful shot at the near post of the right side which left Ochan with no chance of saving it.
The win means Vipers cemented their second spot on the 16 team log currently on 53 points while Police remained ninth with 37 points with two games to the end of the league.
