Vipers’ title defence continues against Maroons

By Football256 Team

Vipers continue with their title defence when they host Maroons at the St Mary’s stadium on Wednesday in yet another ‘must win’ StarTimes Uganda Premier League encounter.

Having lost 2-1 away to Proline in the Stanbic Uganda cup quarter-finals two weeks back, Michael Nam Ouma’s side turn their focus to the only competition they have hope for silverware as the League approaches its final bend.

The venoms lie second on the league standings with 45 points four points behind leaders KCCA FC, they, therefore, need three points in order to keep the momentum on the pacesetters.

“Its a game we are expected to win therefore we must play to our expectations and standards to get the required results,” Ouma told the club said.

Meanwhile, Maroons are also not safe from relegation, they are 12th on the log with 25 points just five points from safety.

Vipers have won just two of their last five league matches with unsatisfying performances leaving the club fans quite disappointed, they lost once and drawn twice.

Maroons have also won twice, drawn twice and lost once in their last five league encounters.

During the first round fixture in Luzira, Vipers came from a goal down to win the game 2-1 courtesy of Moses Waiswa and Davis Kasirye’s goals.

The visitors come into this game on the back of a crucial 1-0 win over Bright Stars while Vipers suffered a serious setback away in Luwero falling 2-1 to relegation strugglers in Ndejje Lions.

Defender Bashir Asiku together with Tito Okello will be unavailable for the game through suspensions because of accumulated cards, Geoffrey Wasswa and Bashir Ssekagya remain long term absentees.

Vipers number one custodian Fabien Mutombora is away in Burundi for national duty, Derrick Ochan is likely to start in goal for the league holders
