Vipers Sports Club’s chances of defending the 2018/2019 StarTimes Uganda Premier League title dropped after their goalless stalemate with Mbarara City at Kakyeka Stadium on Wednesday.
Vipers started the game desperate for three points who close the seven-point gap that was created by KCCA FC 2-0 win over Paidha Black Angels on Tuesday.
KCCA FC lead the sixteen-team log with 56 points, six points ahead of second placed Vipers with just four games to go.
At Prisons grounds in Luzira, Maroons increased their chances of surviving relegation with a 2-1 win over Tooro United through first half strikes by Bronson Nsubuga and Isaac Otto.
Tooro United pulled one back in the 87th minute through John Byamukama but it was late for Wasswa Bbosa’s side to get anything from the game.
Maroons are now 13th on the log with 29 points while Tooro United remained sixth with 39 points.
At Mandela National Stadium Namboole, Bright Stars defeated URA 1-0 to subject the tax collectors to their third loss of the season, Nelson Senkatuka scored for the Mwererwe side in the 28th minute.
URA remained third on the table with 43 points while Bright Stars is now tenth with 34 points.
Meanwhile, BUL FC won the epic Jinja derby as they edged Kirinya Jinja SSS1-0 at the FUFA Technical Center, Njeru.
It was Richard Wandyaka’s lone strike in the 54th minute that gave the Peter Onen side all three points, BUL FC are now fifth on the table with 40 points while Kirinya Jinja SSS is ninth with 36 points.
