It has been an incredible year for Uganda Cranes and Azam FC defender Nicholas Wadada amid the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic that hit the entire world after affected the football calendar.
Wadada was voted the best defender accolade for the 2019/20 Vodafone Tanzania Premier League after a remarkable performance all-season round managing eight assists for his club Azam who finished third on the 20-team log.
He was also named in the best eleven of the season in Tanzania and finished as first runners up for the Most Valuable Player of the season award won by Simba SC’s Clatous Chota Chama.
It is such a wonderful season that earned him a place in the race for the 256 Footballer of the Year Award which he eventually won.
“It has been God’s grace and hard work despite the challenges and I would like to thank everyone that has supported me throughout the year,” Wadada said while receiving the 256 Footballer of the Year Award on Wednesday.
“Having had a successful year, I promise I will not give up but rather push harder for more awards as they come through,” he added.
The former Vipers defender became the second winner of 256 Footballer of the Year Award after Paradou AC midfielder Allan Okello who won the inaugural Award in 2019.
He collected 86,958 votes of the 302,151 in total thus beating Mustafa Kizza, Farouk Miya, Fahad Bayo and Steven Mukwala to this year’s crown.
The Award is meant to celebrate the annual anniversary of Football256 and the winner is voted for by the readers on the online portal.
