Uganda Cranes and Azam FC right back Nicolas Wadada can sit back and afford a smile following his latest achievement.
The 26-year-old was named as the best defender in the recently concluded Vodacom Tanzania Premier League at the end of season awards held in Dar-es-salaam on Friday.
Wadada who beat Coastal Union’s Bakari Mwamnyeto and David Luhende from Kagera Sugar has featured in 90% of Azam FC’s games this season across all competitions.
The roving right back’s consistency has seen him register eight assists in 34 appearances across all competitions guiding the Ice Cream makers to a third place finish. The former Vipers skipper becomes the first Ugandan to win the accolade.
Wadada who was also selected in the league’s best XI is the third Ugandan to play at Azam after winger Brian Majwegga in 2014 who later left to join Simba and striker Brian Umony who joined in 2012 and won the 2014 league title with the money bags.
