WAFCON 2022: Cranes’ Lutalo names four captains

Uganda Crested Cranes head coach George Lutalo has named four captains ahead of the 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.

Goalkeeper Ruth Aturo has been maintained as the team’s full captain and she will be assisted by Hassifah Nassuna.

In the same vein, goalkeeper Daisy Nakaziro and forward Fauzia Najjemba will serve as the third and fourth captains respectively.

Shadia Nankya who was named the CECAFA Women’s Championship captain has not made the WAFCON squad due to injury.

It is an injury she had throughout the CECAFA tournament and it’s her assistant Nassuna that wore the armband as the Cranes won their maiden tournament.

A 25-lady squad will travel to Morocco on Tuesday for a 10-day training camp before the commencement of the tournament on Saturday, July 2.

Lutalo’s charges are pooled in Group A alongside hosts Morocco, Burkina Faso, and Senegal.

Cranes’ first game will be against Senegal on Sunday, July 3 at a competition that kicks off on Saturday, July 2 to Saturday, July 22.
