Following the Uganda Crested Cranes’ exit from the 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, head coach George Lutalo discussed his side’s performance.

Uganda’s female national football team finished bottom of Group A with a single point having lost twice to Morocco 3-1 and Senegal 2-0 before drawing 2-2 with Burkina Faso.

“My greatest satisfaction was the quality of our matches, especially against Burkina Faso. There was very little downtime. I want to congratulate us,” Lutalo was quoted by the CAF website.

“Today, it was not to be. But we showed some very nice things. From now on, we will go home and work hard to get back into this competition.”

“I have finally identified what we have missed. Better preparation, more friendly matches. A better mental preparation, so that my players manage their daily lives as well as possible during a big tournament,” he added.

Lutalo hopes for his team to become a regular at the continent’s greatest women’s football showpiece to try and do better.

Before the 2022 edition, Uganda had been absent from the competition for 22 years because its last appearance was in 2000 which was the country’s maiden time.

“Given our expression in the game against Burkina Faso, we deserved to move on to the next round but we did not show how strong we were with possession.”

“In the first two games, there was dizziness. I hope the public will remember only positive of Uganda’s passage in this Africa Cup of Nations.”

“We want to continue coming to this tournament and we are going to work on a lot of things to improve and return a strong team next time,” Lutalo noted.

As the Crested Cranes return home, the tournament proceeds to the quarterfinals stage.
