Uganda’s chances of progressing to the knockout stages of the 2022 Women Africa Cup of Nations are all but done after suffering a 3-1 defeat to Morocco on Tuesday.

Although they are mathematically still in as they can attain one of the two slots for the third best teams, it will be hard as they hold a negative four goal advantage.

The Prince Moullay Abdellah Stadium defeat for the Crested Cranes was the second in succession, following Sunday’s 2-0 loss to Senegal.

Tottenham forward Rosane Ayale opened the scoring for the hosts in the 14th minute through a penalty, after a Margaret Namirimu foul.

Uganda restored parity in the 32nd minute through a sublime Sumaya Komuntale freekick, to mark the Cranes’ first goal at the WAFCON in 22 years.

At 1-1, Uganda nearly found a second but forward Fauzia Najjemba, on two occasions failed to slot past goalkeeper Er Rmichi.

In 68th minute, Nessryne El Chad made it two for the Atlas Lionesses to kill Uganda’s hopes of a victory.

As though it was not bad enough for Uganda, goal-scorer Komuntale was shown the exit after a second bookable offense.

In the 84th minute, Morocco was awarded a penalty which Ghizzlane Chebbak executed to perfection, to make it 3-1.

The Cranes are now all but out of the tournament, as they lie rock bottom with no point after two games. They will take on Burkina Faso in the last group match slated for Thursday.

Meanwhile, Morocco occupy the apex after collecting a maximum six points in their two games.
