WAFCON 2022: Nalukenge headlines dropped Crested Cranes’ players

The 2019 Airtel FUFA Female Player of the Year Juliet Nalukenge is one of the seven Crested Cranes player dropped ahead of the 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.

Nalukenge was part of the Crested Cranes’ team that played at the preparatory tournament (2022 CECAFA Women’s Championship).

However, she was limited to playing time as the hosts clinched their maiden CECAFA trophy at FUFA Technical Center, Njeru in June.

The other six dropped players are; Shiraz Natasha, Aluka Grace, Biira Nadunga, Samalie Nakachwa, goalkeeper Hadija Nalongo Shadia Nankya, the latter is out due to injury.

Six player had already been dropped following the conclusion of the CECAFA Champions.

Resty Nanziri, Halima Kayondo, Juliet Adeke, Viola Namuddu, Naome Nagadya and Miriam Ibunyu were the axed players earlier on.

Captain Ruth Aturo leads the bunch of players that flew in from abroad and others are; Fauzia Najjemba, Tracy Jones Akiror, Yudaya Nakayenze, and goalkeeper Vanessa Edith Karungi.

George Lutalo’s charges will leave Uganda for Morocco on Tuesday, June 21 for a ten day training camp before the commencement of the competition.

The Crested Cranes are pooled in Group A alongside hosts Morocco, Burkina Faso, and Senegal.

Uganda’s first game will be against Senegal on Sunday, July 3 at a competition that kicks off on Saturday, July 2 to Saturday, July 22.
