Express FC has been boosted by the arrival of captain Enock Walusimbi and goalkeeper Dennis Otim to the team camp in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania as they embark on their 2021 CECAFA Kagame Cup journey.

Walusimbi and Otim joined the rest of the squad after representing Uganda at the CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup in Ethiopia, and they arrive just in time for the opener which was moved to Monday.

Express’ opening match against Atlabara FC was moved from Sunday afternoon to Monday evening but will still be played at the Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium.

“I am so happy to have finally joined the camp. The players are fired up, the stage is set, and we are here to compete for the trophy. Of course, we are ready to face Atlabara,” Walusimbi said.

The Red Eagles after arriving on Thursday have had three training sessions from Friday and Sunday in Dar-es-Salaam.

According to Express head coach Wasswa Bbosa, the players’ arrival has sparked a fresh wave of excitement within the already lively Red Eagles camp.

“The boys are in the mood. We are here to win. We have successfully trained well, and the captain’s arrival plus goalkeeper Otim is a great motivation to the team.”

“We want to make Uganda proud, so our ultimate target is to take the trophy back home, but we first want to make it through the group, then to the semis and the final,” Bbosa declared.

“The boys are ready to see us through the group and then eventual victory. So is everyone else on the team,” he emphasised.

After Atlabara on Monday, Express will play Malawi’s Nyasa Big Bullets FC on Wednesday before facing off with Young Africans FC in the final group game on Saturday.

Group A is finely poised after the opening game of the group between Nyasa and Young Africans ended in a goalless draw, meaning that Express can grab a crucial early advantage if they win against Atlabara.

No injuries have been reported from the Express camp at the moment, and Bbosa will have the luxury to choose from a wide squad of 20 players the first eleven to take on Atlabara on Monday.
