Vipers SC’s dismal performance on the continent continued as the Venoms settled for a barren draw with Tunisian giants CS Sfaxien at St. Mary’s Stadium Kitende on Saturday evening.

In the 2018/2019 Total CAF Confederation Cup first leg playoff against SC Sfaxien, Vipers put up probably their best performance but couldn’t find the back of the net.

The league holders failed to break Sfaxien’s defence and when they did, Dahmen Aymen in goal did the needful to keep both teams at bay.

It was in the 23rd minute when Yato Lutimba broke away, his ground pass missed Tito Okello and Noah Wafula as the Sfaxien defense look on. It was a sigh of relief for the visitors.

Four minutes later, unmarked Wafula missed a close range tap in from Moses Waiswa’s swinging free kick when he had a the time in the world.

But the closest Vipers got to finding a breakthrough was Okello’s header that hit the crossbar, but the offside flag was already up.

Vipers came in the second stanza a rejuvenated side and desperate to bury the game and it was evident in their approach.

After just two minutes in the second half, Daniel Muzeyi Serunkuuma missed a simple tap in from Wafula’s cross.

Daniel Muzeyi Sserunkuma missed from close range before he looked on as Aymen parried his curling shot out for a corner.

From Waiswa’s corner, Okello thought he had found the back of the net, Aymen missed it but one of his defenders had given good cover.

Waiswa tried his lack from far, the shot stopper wasn’t taking any prisoners, as he also tipped over Okello’s header 25 minutes to full-time.

It was from the resulting corner that Lutimba swung in and found Taddeo Lwanga, Aymen did the needful.

The visitors, did not create much chances on the day with their closest being Harzi Aymen’s shot which was saved by Fabien Mutombora in the 33rd minute of the first half.
