SC Villa head coach Edward Kaziba wants to see his side hit the ground running as the season takes its final corner and is confident a fixture against MYDA FC provides an opportunity to gain momentum.

The Jogoo will make the long trip to the King Geroge IV Stadium in Tororo on Thursday, April 1, in search of just their third victory on the road this season.

Their struggles on the road has turned a season which was filled with optimism at the start into one of considerable disappointment as they lie seventh on the log on 25 points, 11 points off the StarTimes Uganda Premier League leaders URA FC.

“We want to start on a high note. So we need to go and get all the three points tomorrow,” Kaziba told Football256 in an interview.

“We started training last week on Tuesday and our focus has been maintaining fitness that is why we opted for only three practice matches before second round kicks off.”

“But all in all the boys’ performance has been good. We have keenly looked and analysed individual performances and I am happy with my players like Francis Olaki who has scored a lot.”

“I am happy with the improvement in the team and the preparations and I am sure we shall look a better side in the second round,” he said.

Meanwhile, Kaziba confirmed that there are no injuries worries in his camp with all the players available for selection apart from Ronald Ssekiganda who will be serving a suspension for accumulated yellow cards.

“Only Ssekiganda who has accumulated three yellow cards will miss the game for us and we are happy with the options we have,” Kaziba continued.

“The rest of the players are around even Gavin Kizito who played against Malawi trained on Monday and could have a role to play in the game,” Kaziba concluded.

Kaziba’s side has looked a shadow of their former self going by their performance in the first round winning only five games of their opening 15 matches a significant decline from nine victories in the final 15 games of the 2019/20 season.

Their major undoing has largely been down to their struggles at the back conceding 18 goals – highest of any team in the top seven – while also keeping only four clean sheets.

Also worrying for Kaziba should be the fact that his side has dropped seven points from winning positions this season while the collected only four points from teams above them in the standings.

But their hosts have even had bigger struggles, losing 11 of their opening 15 games as they continue to look as strong favourites for relegation this season.

While they carried what should be a morale boosting 1-0 victory over Kyetume into the mid-season break and can look to their first round performance away to Villa where Faizo Kazibwe’s 84th minute strike broke them, it is hard to imagine how huge a hit the players confidence has taken especially as financial struggles continue to engulf the club.
