Yasser Mugerwa is one industrious player you would enjoy watching on the pitch any day when injury free which hasn’t been the case for a while now.
The former KCCA FC creative midfielder was experiencing mild knee discomfort at the time he joined the club, which later became unbearable midway 2021/2022 season, and eventually led to a mutual termination of his contract with the club, however, Mugerwa shares that even though it’s been tough, there is light at the end of the tunnel.
“For me, it’s been tough from when I was playing last season, it’s a situation I had to deal with. I’ve been nursing an anterior cruciate ligament tear for which I was supposed to have an operation but after a thorough examination, I was advised to rest the knee for three months and I’ve since seen better progress so I am positive I’ll turn over a new leaf in January” he stated.
The 28-year-old who has previously featured for clubs like URA FC and Orlando Pirates had penned a 2-year contract with KCCA FC at the start of the 2021/22 season but failed to nail a starting berth at the club, managing only one goal in as many appearances before both parties parted ways mutually.
Asked about which options he’s considering now that he is turning the corner, Mugerwa was quick to state that staying in Uganda was a priority for now.
“For now I’d say playing here until June is a priority because you want to monitor and see how you progress especially after being out for a while then we shall see what happens after” he concluded.
With the University Football League having recently recognized Yasser Mugerwa as the best midfielder of the decade and named him on the university football league XI of the decade, the humble, shy-faced creative gem has enough motivation to get him back to his feet.
